Choosing an Agent
Just like dating, it’s important to look around and talk to more than one real estate agent before making a decision of who you work with. While licensing assures all agents are working with a standardized skill set, you’ll want to find someone who has the communication skills, experience and capabilities to surpass your expectations. You’ll also want to find someone you trust, and who you’re ready to spend time with as you tour neighborhoods and houses.
Take the time to meet and vet any potential agent in person to see if they’re the best fit for you and your property goals.
All licensed Real Estate Agents have the fiduciary duty to:
ensure you understand the process,
know the implications of your decisions, and
act in the best interest of their clients above all else.
They should:
understand the complex and ever-changing market;
be able to analyze and make important financial decisions; and
have the confidence and skill to beat out other offers.
Other factors to consider
Are they a full-time agent? What is their availability - including nights and weekends? Time is of the essence when buying real estate.
Does the agent return your calls promptly? Time is money when attempting to buy a property.
Do they have experience completing similar transactions to yours?
Are they familiar with the area in which you are interested?
What are their credentials and education? How do they stay on top of the latest real estate trends?
Do they listen attentively to your needs and concerns? (They should!)
Do you feel comfortable with them? If you have any questions you should be able to ask them without feeling uncomfortable or embarrassed.
